July Updates from Sailing Committee
Published 4:50pm on 14 Jul 2026
Summer sailing is in full swing, with plenty happening on and off the water. Competitive racing has continued on Wednesday evenings and Sundays, with sailors enjoying everything from strong winds to lighter and more tactical conditions, with a record number of capsizes!
The popular Saturday Social Sailing also continuing each week, with safety boat cover available for sailors of all levels and plenty of opportunities to get out on the water.
Our Thursday ladies sailing sessions are also continuing and have been a brilliant opportunity for women of all abilities to get involved, build confidence and enjoy some relaxed time on the water together.
Junior sailing
It has been fantastic to see so many of our younger sailors getting involved and having such a brilliant time during Thursday evening fun sailing.
The recent hot weather has made being on the water even more enjoyable, with plenty of smiles, splashing and growing confidence. All sessions continue to be carefully supervised, with safety boat cover and experienced members on hand, so juniors can enjoy themselves while learning in a safe and supportive environment.
Huge well done to those who completed their RYA Level 1 last week.
Further RYA Youth Training Scheme sessions are also planned, giving our younger sailors the opportunity to build their skills and continue progressing throughout the summer.
Racing success
Congratulations to Dave Woodhead and Darren Nield, who finished 4th and 5th respectively in their Solos in the competitive North West Traveller Series, racing at clubs across the region.
A further congratulations goes to Darren for winning the Nantwich event in the Border Counties Midweek Series. Fantastic results and great to see Elton sailors representing the club so successfully.
Forthcoming events
There is lots to look forward to over the next few weeks:
Saturday 18th July BBQ and Duck Race, alongside an afternoon of fun sailing.
Sunday 19th July The final day of the Moore & Moore Windows sponsored Sunday Series, followed by the prizegiving.
Sunday 26th July Double-Hander Trophy Day. Members are encouraged to sign up as either helm or crew and get involved.
Training
Training also continues throughout the summer, with a fully booked RYA Powerboat course taking place on 25th and 26th July.
An RYA Level 1 course for beginners will follow on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August, with a Dinghy Instructor course also planned for early August.
With racing, social sailing, junior sessions, training and club events all coming up, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved and enjoy a busy summer at Elton.
