NEW..Pre-Race Safety Briefing

Published 5:11pm on 11 Mar 2025
To enhance communication and ensure a safe and enjoyable racing experience for all, we are introducing a Pre-Race Safety Briefing before each club racing session. The briefing will be conducted by the Race Officer and is aimed at providing key information on the days racing plans, course details, safety procedures and to introduce the safety crews to each other. The structure is quite informal and great opportunity for lesser experienced crews to ask any questions.
Why the Briefing?
- Improves safety by ensuring all race officers and safety crews understand what to expect.
- Clarifies the day's racing schedule, including start times and formats.
- Ensures alignment on any club-specific procedures, including rules and race management expectations.
Briefing Times:
To allow ample time for rigging and preparation, the safety briefing will take place 45 minutes before the first race:
- Sundays: 11:15 AM (before the first race at 12:00 PM)
- Wednesdays (Pursuit Racing): 6:00 PM (before the first race at 6:45 PM)
- Wednesdays (Handicap Racing): 6:45 PM (before the first race at 7:30 PM)
The briefing should only take 5-10 minutes to allow plenty of time to get prepared.
Race Officer Guidance
A bullet-point checklist has been provided in the Race Office for the Race Officer as guidance, to cover essential topics, including:
- Introduction.
- Weather conditions.
- Course details, including start/finish lines and any specific instructions
- Start sequence and timings for all fleets.
Who Should Attend?
All safety boat crews and race officers are asked to attend. The briefing ensures they are informed and prepared, creating a safer and smoother racing experience for all. Competitors are not required to attend.
If needed, a member of the Sailing Committee will be happy to attend the meeting to help answer any questions. If you think that would be needed, please do let us know on the day.
Thank you for your cooperation in making this a valuable part of our racing programme. We look forward to seeing you on the water!
