Improver Sessions

A fantastic opportunity to refine your sailing skills with expert coaching and real-time feedback.

When: Saturdays (Each Date is Below), 3 hours per session

Who Can Join: All members, who have completed RYA Level 1 and/or 2 courses and are confident launching and ready to sail, all the way through to seasoned sailors wanting better results or more practice.

Flexibility: Attend as many sessions as you like—whether its one or all!

These sessions are designed to cater to sailors at all levels. To help us plan effectively, we ask that members sign up on the club website before attending.

How the Sessions Will Run

  1. Be Ready and Rigged: Sailors should arrive with boats rigged and ready.
  2. 13:00 Briefing: A short on-shore briefing will outline the days focus, key techniques, and session goals.
  3. On-the-Water Coaching (2 Hours): Sailors will practice targeted skills on the water, with our coach providing live guidance and feedback.
  4. Video Feedback and Practical Exercises: Key learning pointers will be recorded on video for later review.
  5. Debrief: After changing and de-rigging, join us in the bar for a friendly debrief. Well review the footage, see how we have progressed, and discuss areas for improvement.

Session Focus Areas

Each session will deliver a comprehensive learning experience, covering:

  • 5th April (Led by Adam S) Upwind Sailing: Learn to sail efficiently into the wind by optimizing sail trim, angles, and boat balance.
  • 3rd May (Led Adam S) Downwind Sailing: Master techniques for speed and stability when sailing with the wind.
  • 17th May (Led by Mark H/Ava HS) Boat Handling: Practice smooth transitions, including tacking and gybing, to maintain performance in various conditions.
  • 31st May (Led by Ali W/Harriet W) Starting Strategies: Gain confidence in positioning, timing, and securing a strong place on the start line.
  • 21st June (Led by Adam S) Sailing the Course: Navigate courses effectively with a focus on mark rounding, adapting to conditions, and optimizing your routes.
  • 12th July (Led by Adam S) Coached Races: Test your skills in guided races, complete with live coaching and feedback to build tactical awareness.

These sessions are ideal for anyone looking to enhance their confidence, improve race results, or simply enjoy structured coaching in a supportive environment.

There is a WhatsApp Group in the Community, where the details along with any briefing and de-briefing information will be shared.

Were looking forward to seeing you on the water and at the bar for this exciting new program!
