Whether you're a family looking to enjoy more sailing adventures together or an adult wanting to sail solo in light winds, this course is the next step in your sailing journey.
Taught by RYA-qualified instructors with a focus on safety, skill-building, and enjoyment, this course will help you gain the confidence to sail independently and handle your boat in a variety of conditions.
Prerequisite: Completion of Level 1 or equivalent experience
Duration: 2-3 days
Ages: Adults and Youth (16+). Junior sailors follow learn to sail through our Junior Sailing Scheme
What you'll learn (syllabus):
- Rigging for Different Conditions Learn how to rig your boat for different weather and wind conditions, ensuring a smooth sailing experience.
- Advanced Boat Control Refine your ability to steer, trim sails, and balance your boat for optimal performance.
- Tacking & Gybing with Confidence Improve your turning skills, allowing you to sail smoothly through the wind.
- Sailing Upwind & Downwind Gain the ability to sail efficiently in all directions.
- Sailing a Set Course Learn how to navigate a short course and adjust your sailing approach based on wind conditions.
- Coming Alongside & Picking Up a Mooring Master essential skills for docking and mooring safely.
- Man Overboard Recovery Practice quick and safe recovery of someone from the water.
- Capsize Recovery & Safety Gain confidence in recovering from a capsize and understand key safety procedures.
What the course enables you to do
- Sail Independently By the end of the course, you will be able to sail solo in light winds, building your confidence on the water.
- Join Family-Friendly Club Races Take part in club races on your own, or crew for a more experienced racer.
- Enjoy Recreational Sailing Plan family outings, weekend cruises, or holiday sailing adventures, knowing you can handle your boat safely.
- Work Towards Further Qualifications After completing Level 2, you can progress to RYA Level 3 (Better Sailing) or onto a Start Racing Course for those keen to do more racing.
